Can solar panels fuel a car?

Yes — and for most people it is the most practical answer on this site.

A typical residential solar array produces enough energy over a year to cover the driving of an average household, provided the vehicle is electric and a battery or the grid smooths out the timing.

The pathway is short: panels, inverter, battery or grid, charger, car. Every component is a mass-produced, warrantied product installed by licensed trades.

Panels on the car itself are a different matter. The available surface area on a vehicle is small, and useful range from onboard solar remains modest.
